Linda and Lynda

My friend Linda brought in these two Christmas quilts. I found it interesting that this year we didn't get a lot of Christmas themed quilts from our clients.

First, this runner for Linda.

I ditched the entire runner so the piecing really pops.

For Linda's table topper, I went with the panto Swirl and did a stipple in the very middle around the applique.

And for Lynda, this fabulous Christmas quilt.

The quilting looks fabulous with her fabrics.
We went with Holly and Poinsettia.

And her other lovely quilt.

For this one, I quilted the panto Heather. Very subtle with the quilt.

A few more finishes

For my clients this week.

Jean brought in this lovely table topper.

Jean choose the panto Ground Cover; such a perfect choice.

With her leftovers, she made this gorgeous table runner.

I did some water stitching in the background and ditched the rest.

It made the wedges just pop.

Kathy brought in this adorable baby quilt.

I quilted Laurie on the baby quilt and Loop the Loop on her second quilt.

Happy Friday!

Stitchy Fingers

I've been working on many different embroidery designs lately. I'm not sure if they will become Christmas presents or if I will keep them. I just love doing them.

I finished up this lovely wall hanging for Hamels.

I kept the quilting simple and went with a meander.

The kit can be purchased here.

I also quilted this fabulous quilt for Barb.

And yes, I used my water Circle Lord board.

One more week left of work for this year, time to finish up a few more quilts.

Nancy Drew

When my daughter in law Erica came out earlier in October, she found some Nancy Drew charm packs and wanted to make a quilt. I showed her how to do a disappearing 9 patch and off she went.

As Erica progressed with her sewing, we soon realized that she didn't have enough charm squares to make a big enough quilt. So she decided to leave the quilt behind with me to finish.

It wasn't long before I discovered that the fabric Erica had picked was no longer available. I ended up getting some prints that I felt worked well and came up with this.

I kept with the dot theme and went with Loop the loop for the quilting.

And for the back, a matching minkee.

Hope you enjoy your quilt Erica!

Sylvia is a new client. She brought in a lovely baby quilt. She took a baby print and backed it with a satin fabric.

The quilting looks so pretty on the backing.
I went with one of my favorite kid pantographs, Angel Wings.

This next quilt turned into something very unexpected. When I started quilting, I quickly realized that all the white stripes in the fabric were a flange.

As a result, I couldn't go ahead with just quilting as the flanges were folding back and forth; it was a mess. Rhonda suggested that I tape the fabric down and this is what we ended up with.

Not at all pretty but it did the trick. I was able to do the quilting.

Once the quilt was finished, I peeled off all the tape. And dug out little bits that stuck under the stitches.
You would have never guessed looking at the quilt.

The pattern Erin suited the quilt perfectly.

I'll admit that I was happy to see this one go home.

The studio has been busy

As we are finishing up Christmas quilts. Here's a few of my recent finishes.

Jackie pieced this next one. She requested my board pattern, Egyptian Eye as it matched the fabric she used in the quilt.

It was the perfect pattern for this quilt.

For Delinda.

Delinda wanted a simple pattern so we went with Surf's Up.

It looked so pretty on the quilt.

Hilda does such fabulous embroidery work. Sadly I didn't get a picture of her entire quilt.

Sadly I did the same with Marg's quilt; no full quilt picture.

I've been longarming for almost 10yrs and this was the first time I had ever done this pantograph, Spin.

It's a great pattern; I'll have to make something for myself to quilt it on.

I've been working

On  a few Christmas things the past few days.

I made this runner probably 5 years ago. It may have been even longer than that. All I needed to do to finish it was the quilting.

I kept the quilting simple and went with a freehand swirling meander.

And some embroidery.

Can not wait to give this next one away at Christmas.

But first I have a little something to get quilted.

Modern Quilts

I've been seeing more and more modern quilts lately. Here are a few of them.

For Hamels Quilt Store

This fabric line is fantastic; the colours are so rich.
I quilted it with my Circle Lord Board Water but I changed it up so the quilting made a ribbon.

This lovely quilt was pieced by Penny.

And you guessed it; quilted with Water again.

The camera didn't pick up the vividness of the green; it's not nearly as yellow as in the picture.

And lastly this stunning quilt. Sadly I didn't write down who pieced this one.

As you can see, it's also quilted with Water.

I love this quilt, I might have to add one of these to my list to make for 2015!

Weekend Fun

I took some time for myself on the weekend and made a few runners for our bedroom.

For my dresser

And for each of our night tables. I used the leftovers from the runner for these.

Now to find some time to quilt them!
